Diplomatic relations between Nepal and the Arab Republic of Egypt were established on 16 July 1957. Nepal opened its Embassy in Cairo in 1966, followed by the opening of the Egyptian Embassy in Kathmandu in 1970. Nepal"s first Ambassador to Egypt, Mr. Aniruddha Prasad Singh, served from 1968 to 1972.

Both countries are members of the United Nations, the Group of 77, and founding members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). Their relationship has been defined by mutual trust, understanding, and a shared commitment to international peace and development, and combating climate change.

Nepal appreciates Egypt"s pioneering contribution to the ideals of the Non-Aligned Movement, and supported the Camp David Accords of 1978, which paved the way for the Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty in 1979.
